Despite the changing face of the world, we can all be proud of many within our entertainment industry for having placed international focus on the incredible talent within our own ‘backyard’ and for this very reason, Homebake 2005 will honour those appearing on our humble stages - as well as paying homage to the local entertainment industry as a whole.

25th October - SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT!

Homebake HQ takes pride in selecting a fine array of local talent to appear on its stages and now that the SOLD OUT sign has been well and truly placed over the door of The Domain, we are pleased as punch to announce the final starts of HOMEBAKE 2005 - THE HONOURS YEAR.  • Second Round Bands

Folks…there really is not that many a musical act that has produced international hit after international hit moreso than New Zealand’s greatest song writing duo, that extremely talented & increasingly witty team known as THE FINN BROTHERS. With a career spanning over two decades, HOMEBAKE is finally pleased to present a very special and seriously exclusive ‘best of’ performance by these universally acclaimed brothers. Featuring a very special set of material covering all their famous incarnations (Split Enz, Crowded House & The Finn Brothers), Neil & Tim will present a one off and extraordinary performance. Words alone cannot describe how amazing this performance will be - especially in Summer and in the setting of The Domain in Central Sydney. We are incredibly honoured & excited to present this unique FINN BROTHERS show taking place at HOMEBAKE 2005.
Another one of Australia’s finest whom have been the recipients of international acclaim as well as remarkable sales are the very awesome THE LIVING END. Currently in the studio with master producer Nick Launay recording their much anticipated new album for EMI, these three likely lads make up one of the most lauded & energetic bands in the land. The Living End join in the celebrations at HOMEBAKE this year with their exceptional brand of pure punk rockability, be sure to catch their walloping set at this year’s HOMEBAKE festival.
Some may say they are the quiet achievers, however their somewhat huge and fanatical following would beg to differ. Having sold a truckload of albums (& more), SOMETHING FOR KATE have been away from National stages for some time whilst they commence the recording of their 5th album. Whilst we wait for the finished album, we couldn’t resist but to ask and coerce these long time Homebake friends back to our stages in the Domain. Also paying homage to their extraordinary career, we can guarantee that Something For Kate will undoubtedly preview new tracks at this exclusive Homebake 05 performance.
We’ve known since he was but a young teenager and since then he’s been lauded as one of Australia’s finest songwriters and at the ripe age of just twenty six he’s already experienced a full life indeed. In 2003 he made his feature film debut alongside Rose Byrne and Miranda Richardson with the title role of Placid Lake in the Australian comedy, The Rage In Placid Lake. He’s also performed a duet with Kylie Minogue; written songs for Evan Dando’s 2003 album, Baby I’m Bored; been involved in a collaboration with Ben Kweller and Ben Folds under the name ‘The Bens’. Now for the first time ever at Homebake, BEN LEE will awaken your pop sensibilities when he takes centre stage equipped with past favourites and a bunch of new tunes from his recent album ‘Awake Is The New Sleep’ at this year’s HOMEBAKE festival.
What more can we say about Australia’s most favourite new found eccentric rockers than has already been said (& worldwide at that!). Currently holed up in Los Angeles working with Dave Sardy (Nine Inch Nails, Jet, Oasis) on their highly anticipated debut album, WOLFMOTHER are set to unleash their new creation with threats of crafting whole new types of heavy weirdness. A live experience from these three mothers of music melds the shrilling vocal delivery of Andrew Stockdale, the ceremonial style keyboards and evil bass riffs of Chris Ross and the obliteration of the drums by Myles Heskett. Watch out for the wonder beast that is Wolfmother when they pack a primal punch at HOMEBAKE this year.
Complex, interesting, original, multi-faceted, there isn’t another act that even comes close to what they do in the entire country. One of Australia’s most exciting young bands, COG has released their highly anticipated debut album, The New Normal. Debuting in the Top 20 on the ARIA albums chart and taking out the number one spot on the AIR indie charts the band secured the coveted album of the week spot with Triple J and the second single lifted from the album reached number 9 on Triple J’s Net 50. This power packed three- piece will be fully pumped and ready for action come December for their debut performance at HOMEBAKE.
2005 has seen them perform at many prestigious international venues in the USA and the UK including a hot slot at Glastonbury last month (as well as many international festivals across Europe) and they’ve just come off the back of a tour as special guests for internationals the Bloc Party. Next stop is the USA to support Franz Ferdinand on their American tour so it’s all happening for CUT COPY. Their debut album ‘Bright Like Neon Love’ will make you feel like your rediscovering lost memories and hearing the sound of the future both at the same time, you’ll want to grow a disco ball for a head and electric guitars for arms. Cut Copy will light up your life when they perform their unique brand of 80’s influenced electro pop at HOMEBAKE.
As has been so appropriately described by themselves ‘ Where the hip hop community dance to Gypsy, the jazz purists jump to hip hop, the latinos bop to reggae, the rastas shake to latin, the elderly sweat to funk, the youth swing to dancehall, and everyone wakes a little happier’ THE CAT EMPIRE combine all these styles to present their own formidable style of feel good sounds to a mass appreciative audience. They recently released their platinum selling chart topping album, ‘Two Shoes’, through EMI and are currently touring overseas before heading back to our vast shores to appear at Homebake 2005.
And back in to the honours category… They were largely ignored by the local music industry in Australia when they burst onto the scene in the 70’s with their self-funded debut track ‘(I’m) Stranded’ but THE SAINTS attracted world wide attention and were wooed to London where a punk revolution was raging. ‘(I’m) Stranded’ was hailed as a rock & roll classic and the band were immediately signed to EMI records and cut their debut album also called ‘(I’m) Stranded’ in two power packed days. In 1978 they released their now classic ‘Know Your Product’ and their revered second album ‘Eternally Yours’. However, with no money, management disagreements and musical differences the group disbanded but not until after the release of their third album, ‘Prehistoric Sounds’ which is still cited as an exemplary album today. Sir Bob Geldoff once said that three bands altered the face of rock music in the 1970’s: Sex Pistols, The Ramones & The Saints. HOMEBAKE welcomes & honours The Saints to its stages in 2005.
They’ve been around the block countless times here in Australia and they’ve toured the USA four times, Japan and Canada twice. Following the huge success of their debut album ‘Learn Yourself’ they’ve just released their new album, ‘We’re Already Gone’ which recently made the cut as Triple J album of the week. Expect melodic beauty and a rhythmic mix of art, dub and rock when THE BEAUTIFUL GIRLS present their inimitable style at Homebake 2005.
She’s been critically lauded across Australia and now her success has truly become paramount to that which she deserves. SARAH BLASKO has been warming hearts in the live music scene with her beautiful ethereal voice for sometime now, & this truly talented young lady is harvesting a healthy career both here and internationally with her debut release, the highly acclaimed ‘The Overture and The Underscore’. Expect an emotionally moving and engaging set from this young star at HOMEBAKE 2005.
This foursome from Perth have introduced their debut forthcoming self titled album by way of their radio hit ‘Oh Yeah’ and they’ve become a must see live act though out this vast land. It’s their thumping bass lines and stick-in-your-head choruses that have made END OF FASHION one hell of a find! Their performance at this year’s HOMEBAKE will see this infectious, timeless, get-go rock band deliver one hell of an unforgettable performance.
Their haunting and spell binding live shows have been described as remarkable, brilliant, psychedelic, inspirational and life changing. As we have described many a time, they could well be the perfect soundtrack setting for a non existent movie – however, our words are now dismissed as DECODER RING recorded the soundtrack to the critically lauded Cate Shortland produced Australian movie, ‘Somersault’. September this year will see them release their third full length release ‘Fractions’ which will continue to establish this band as the new force in the local music scene. Decoder Ring in full stride, unencumbered by genre or style certainly creates a musical journey that is both unique and timeless, be sure to catch this mesmerising band in action at this year’s HOMEBAKE Festival.
The masses tuned into the first tastes of their debut album ‘Dreams’ via some serious airplay on celluloid screens in living rooms around the nation as the hot teen TV drama ‘The OC’ pumped out their tunes. However this was just the catalyst for the three brothers Hulme who had been grafting hard in the live music scene for three years prior. Now with their debut platinum album ‘Dreams’ firmly tucked under their belts EVERMORE are reaping the rewards. Get on board and ride for what is sure to be an inspiring performance from Evermore at HOMEBAKE.
During their peak in the 1980’s Brisbane’s THE GO-BETWEENS delivered highly praised albums including Liberty Belle & The Black Diamond Express, Tallulah and 16 Lovers Lane. Classic tracks like ‘Streets Of Your Town’ and ‘Cattle and Cane’ also helped establish the brilliance of this band but in 1989 sadly they called it a day leaving behind an avid fan base. In the year 2000 founding members Robert Foster and Grant Mc Lennan were inspired to resurrect the name and toured the world for the first time in eleven years. In March this year with much enthusiasm and acclaim they released ‘Oceans Apart’, the bands ninth album. HOMEBAKE 2005 welcomes the return of one of this country’s most shining stars when The Go–Betweens join in the celebrations at Sydney’s Domain on Saturday December 3.
He’s scored music for films, and television, remixed for acts such as Powderfinger, Grinspoon and Silverchair, works which have established him as this country's pre-eminent remixer. He’s a multi ARIA award winner for his work with underground dance pioneers Itch-E & Scratch-E and for his own debut solo album. To add to his impressive list of achievements he was named ‘Producer of the Year’ at the 2001 Australian Dance Music Awards. He was also named ‘Dance Artist Of The Year’ in Rolling Stone’s Readers Poll and won the 2001 APRA Award for ‘Most Performed Dance Work’. Most recently he’s been known for his work with a band called The Dissociatives, a project created with Silverchair’s Daniel Johns. On the perfectly timed release to the follow up album to his acclaimed gold selling debut solo album ‘3000 Feet High’, HOMEBAKE welcomes Mr PAUL MAC to the fold this year!
Another of our favourites who have spent more time on international stages than our own (& having received rave reviews since their inception) are the extraordinary collective known as THE DIRTY THREE. These experts of live expression have been the recipients of world wide acclaim and one again venture to Australia for HOMEBAKE 2005. Warren Ellis, Mick Turner and Jim White are The Dirty Three & with their incredible gift of creating eastern influenced emotional sound scapes will execute a psychedelic performance with much depth and diversity at HOMEBAKE this year.
Announced as opener for The Black Eyed Peas Australian tour and keen to sort some serious stylin’ KATALYST & RU C.L join forces for a special performance at HOMEBAKE this year. RU C.L a.k.a Rueben Campbell is one of the most exciting artists to emerge from Australia's thriving Hip Hop scene and he and Katalyst (a.k.a Ashley Anderson) recently worked together to produce tracks for his debut album. Expect these guys to deliver a set with truly universal appeal on December 3.
They’ve been touring the nation with their melodic power pumped rock for the past three years and now KISSCHASY deliver the fruits of their labour with their debut album ‘United Paper People’ hitting stores this week. Currently on the road with Shihad and soon to open shows for Simple Plan these four youngsters from Melbourne are cracking it wide open. Expect a slamming set aplomb with attitude from Kisschasy as they make their debut HOMEBAKE performance this year.
Not many are aware of them (as yet), but we can say that Adelaide’s finest WOLF AND CUB are four young men who create a gorgeous racket. Rolling Stone Magazine tagged them as one of the hottest new acts to watch and they’ve shared stages with such acts as The Von Bondies, The Killers and The Music. We urge you to catch these guys at HOMEBAKE when they’ll let loose with a full throttle set which is guaranteed to floor you.
SNEAKY SOUND SYSTEM, the Sydney four-piece electro-house-funk collective comprising Black Angus’ (Angus McDonald) beating the decks with MC Hesse (Damien Hesse) and MC Double D (Daimon Downey) mixing it up on the mic deliver pop-fuelled party-rhymes coupled with thick bass lines, lush melodies and rolling guitar licks. Imagine a sun-soaked Grandmaster Flash combined with some roller-boogie; Prince sexed up with some sweaty urban romance; a salt-bitten New Order with funkier riffs and you’ve conjured up what to expect from these guys at HOMEBAKE this year.
We’re going to start the fanfare by announcing a new act who may be considered a little different for Homebake, however we reckon they may just set the big top well and truly alight! With their upbeat start to this year’s ARIA Awards, commercial dance favourites THE ROGUE TRADERS exploded onto the airwaves and bulleted into the charts with a platinum Top 5 hit single ‘Voodoo Child’ – being the first taste of what’s to come from their ‘Here Comes The Drum’ album. With none other than Natalie Bassingthwaighte as their newest recruit THE ROGUE TRADERS will deliver a set filled with rapacious hooks, monstrous guitar riffs, unfettered rock energy and youthful enthusiasm at HOMEBAKE.

2005 has been a big year for ARCHITECTURE IN HELSINKI, with the release of the full length album ‘In Case We Die’, two Australian tours, two US tours, a quick stopover in Iceland and an extensive trip across Europe, ARCHITECTURE IN HELSINKI remain one of the most unique and dynamic acts this side of the equator!! Described by many as ingenious, ultimately, what's most disarming about the band's brand of blissful musing is that it's so stupidly pleasant to listen to!! During their very popular live shows, Helsinki members are known to play a kind of musical chairs game on stage, switching between hosts of instruments at the drop of a blueprint. Be sure to check them out HOMEBAKE 2005!

Lauded as one of Australia’s finest electronic acts, PNAU have been busy promoting the release of their most recent long player ‘Again’ throughout the UK & Europe courtesy of local release in the region via Darren Emerson’s Underwater Records label. Last seen live in front a huge crowd at Splendour In The Grass, Pnau return to the festival stages – although this time celebrating the release of their brand new single, ‘Donnie Darko’ via a very special Homebake iTunes co-promotion.

Whilst we are on the topic of iTunes (and exclusive releases from artists appearing at HOMEBAKE 2005), rising beyond his role as the front man of the wildly successful 1200 Techniques, we are happy to present the debut festival performance for one of Australia’s most talented MC’s & writers , NFA. Whilst 1200 Techniques have taken a well deserved break, NFA has devoted this time to the recording of his first solo album titled ‘Cause An Effect’. Featuring collaborations & contributions with producers and MC’s from all over the world (including Roots Manuva, Mr Yoshiaki, DJ Peril, Deceptikons and many more), NFA will unleash his first single exclusively via iTunes (see below) following this up with video’s produced & directed by close friend, Heath Ledger and Aria Award winners Mark Gracey & Pete Commin. NFA joins HOMEBAKE 05 with a full band.
His three solo albums have collectively sold more than 500 000 copies and following the release of each album he was awarded an ARIA for Best Male Artist. His now iconic 2001 single, ‘Amazing’ was not only voted Song of the Year in the prestigious, listener voted Triple J Hottest 100 poll in 2001 - it also secured an APRA Award in 2002 for Song of the Year and was also the most played song on Australian radio that same year. ALEX LLOYD returns centre stage this month with another masterpiece in his new self –titled album. ‘Never Meant To Fail’, the first single from the said album, has been bouncing around the airwaves and yet again defines ALEX LLOYD as one of the strongest songwriters this country has to offer. Be sure to tune into ALEX LLOYD on December 3 at HOMEBAKE.
This Sydney based duo now well and truly known as THE PRESETS deliver a live set that straddles both rock and dance circuits with infectious, sweat soaked sensibilities. To be commercially released in 2005, PERIL & SUBURBAN INTELLECT will ‘blow the house down’ performing all their new tracks at HOMEBAKE 2005

Get down and dirty for what will be a potent power packed performance of raw rock and swamped up rhythmic blues from THE MESS HALL at HOMEBAKE in December.
Their self-tiled debut album encouraged a strong following for this Hip-Hop collective with their Triple J hit ‘Scallops’ which has gone on to became an Aussie backyard anthem. Following long stints on the road as they celebrated the release of their second acclaimed album ‘An Elefant Never Forgets’, THE HERD have released ‘The Sun Never Sets’ which is their most accomplished work to date proving that what began as a group of individuals working together has now developed into a tight and cohesive band. THE HERD’s song writing, rhyme flows, singing, music production and arrangements have developed remarkably, showcasing a more mature yet vitally important voice in Australian music. We welcome THE HERD to the HOMEBAKE stable!
Having been introduced to audiences far and wide as a young lass lending a hand on the oh-so catchy ‘Addicted To Bass’ smash hit back in 1999 this elegant chanteuse returns with more brilliant new tunes in the bag. AMIEL’s distinctive vocals will penetrate the airwaves this summer in the lead up to the release of her second solo album ‘These Ties’ which is set for release in 2006. Preceded by the radio hit, ‘Round and Round’, the new album was produced by London based producer, Stephen Lironi (he of 80’s new wave cult band, Altered Images). Be sure to catch the beauty of her raw edged pop when the wonderfully talented AMIEL joins us at HOMEBAKE.
Having spent much of 2005 venturing the world, THE MORNING AFTER GIRLS long & winding road to international attention now seems to be paying off. Expect to be treated to a dynamic set when DAPPLED CITIES FLY take to the stage at HOMEBAKE this year.
With influences like At The Drive In, The Birthday Party and Joy Division this young six piece punk band has attacked audiences through a barrage of angular guitars, short spurts of stabbing vocals, a raging rhythm section and synth lines that sit somewhere between haunting melody and classical rhythm. It is this concoction that makes THE SCARE so damn interesting. Be warned they will demand your attention and you won’t escape the power of THE SCARE at HOMEBAKE.
They’ve captured the nations attention with their debut single ‘Outside 109’ and will continue to set sparks flying with their next track ‘Time’ lifted from their forthcoming EP due for release later this year. BRITISH INDIA recruited none other than legendary Easybeats guitarist Harry Vanda (AC/DC, Rose Tattoo and The Wrights) to produce their new offering. HOMEBAKE fans can expect nothing short of a dynamic and powerful set from this young Melbourne band when they make their HOMEBAKE debut this year!
If you can imagine Pavement crashing into The Cars and then ricocheting into Sonic Youth (& with a more than a hint of The Psychedelic Furs) you'd end up with something like THE GOLDEN AGE. These youngsters grabbed a heap of attention last year at HOMEBAKE when they opened proceedings at the Hopetoun Stage as winners of the Hopetoun Hotel band competition, They’ve now released a full length album ‘Mexico City Bees’ and we think it is such a stunning piece of work that we welcome THE GOLDEN AGE back at the big bake this year!
