THE DIVINYLS In a male dominated world of rock, the role of this woman was a thrilling phenomenon; here was a woman who expressed both violence and vulnerability in her music, and whose ardent, sexually charged performances took audiences to new heights, and who became an icon and an inspiration to women in rock around the world.

She became the front-woman of rock, embodying a sexy, brash, punk rock'n'roll ethic, while dressed in her trademark school uniform, high heels and fishnet stockings. This band changed the confines of Australian rock and roll particularly the perception of woman in rock, we are of course referring to the internationally renown seminal Australian band, THE DIVINYLS, fronted by Christina ('Chrissy') Amphlett who in partnership with guitarist Mark McEntee came to prominence in the eighties after appearing in Ken Cameron's film 'Monkey Grip' and releasing the potent single from the soundtrack, Boys in Town. The single was a hit with fans and critics, reaching the Top Ten in Australia.

They recorded numerous albums 'Desperate' (1983), 'What a Life!' (1985) and 'Temperamental' (1988) producing rock songs that still define the genre today, some of the most memorable being "Pleasure and Pain", "Boys In Town", Science Fiction" and "Hey Little Boy", "Punksie" & one of the most hard hitting punk/new wave cross-over anthems ever, 'In My Life' Their 1991 album 'Divinyls' featured the singles "Make Out Alright" and the controversial "I Touch Myself" which was their most successful single, reaching Number 1 in Australia, the USA and the UK - where, incidentally, the song was deemed too racy and they were not permitted to perform live on Top Of The Pops.

1995's darker album 'Underworld' included the singles "Heart Of Steel", "I'm Jealous" (featured on TV's Melrose Place), "Sex Will Keep Us Together" and the heart-rending "Human On The Inside". An overview of their work (plus covers and rarities) 'Make You Happy (1981-1983)' released in 1997 was followed by a stunning live album, simply titled 'Live' (2001, as well as a definitive collection 'Pleasure and Pain' (2003). They sold 500,000 albums in Australia and over 2 million globally.

The Divinyls never split up, they just stopped performing, and it's been a decade since they toured Australia. However, on return to our shores last year for their induction in to the highly prestigious ARIA HALL OF FAME, they delivered a one off blistering performance in a much anticipated reunion set - & they were celebrated with a fitting introduction from none other than Hugh Jackman.

The thrill of the band's Hall Of Fame performance rekindled old energies and this much loved iconic Australian band are set to get back in to saddle for a new album this year.

HOMEBAKE 2007 reveals with great pleasure The Divinyls fronted by the remarkable Chrissy Amphlett in partnership with guitarist Mark Mc Entee and joined by Charlie Owen (Beasts of Bourbon), Charley Drayton (Keith Richards Expensive Wino's, Fiona Apple and Michelle Branch) with a newly recruited bass player will re-unite to deliver what is sure to be a extraordinary set at HOMEBAKE in December.
