Film Description
This documentary should be seen be every living soul on the planet! Why? Because everyone knows we’re all one human family, trouble is it’s a dysfunctional one.
And unfortunately, we live in an egotistical era where the foremost thought in our minds is “What About Me?”

On this visionary expedition, the double Grammy nominated 1 Giant Leap visits over 50 locations worldwide, exploring through music, the complexities of human nature on a global scale.

The backbone of the project is the music these two make. Each masterpiece begins with a pre-composed backing track which then grows and develops as new layers are added. International stars like Alanis Morissette, KD Lang, Michael Stipe, Will Young, Maxi Jazz and Michael Franti along with Bedouin musicians, Chinese rappers, Gabonese Pygmies and Tuvan Throat singers are seamlessly mixed and incorporated into the original 1 Giant Leap musical vision. Interwoven with theses musical jewels are words of wisdom regarding our collective insanity from an exquisite assortment of personalities including: Tim Robbins, Deepak Chopra, Billy Connolly, Sir Bob Geldolf, Susan Sarandon, Eckhart Tolle, Neale Donald Walsch, Noam Chomsky and many more.

Why are we so ego driven? Needy in relationships? Insatiable in desire? Addicted to status? Wounded by childhood? And unable to stop thinking? Amongst all this, how is it we still manage to be inspired and beautifully creative? When Jamie and Duncan left on their global journey, they thought they were in control, but how could they predict what would happen when they sought wisdom from the cream of the world’s thinkers, writers and entertainers, as well as many people just getting on with their lives. Unscripted, with no storyboard, these conversations reveal how we are connected not only through our creativity and our beliefs but most of all through our madness.

“What About Me?” is a poignant, emotional and entertaining time capsule of humanity at its most inspirational. Five stars for this unique music, TV and film project!

“..an amazing film by two genius filmmakers” - Bono (U2)

A news Release From The Vines

It is with a great deal of regret that The Vines today announced that they have cancelled all of their Australian festival appearances -& Homebake, Pyramid Rock and Big Day Out - and their forthcoming Japanese tour scheduled for& late November .

Craig Nicholls’ mental condition has deteriorated extremely rapidly over the past month to the point where he requires immediate help over an extended period of time.

Craig’s fellow band members Hamish Rosser, Ryan Griffiths and Brad Heald are all extremely saddened by this turn of events and wish to extend their heartfelt thanks to all the fans, friends and family who have shown in faith in the band since their successful return to the live stage in 2006.

"On behalf of The Vines we would like to extend our sincerest apologies to those of you who won't be able to see us perform” said Hamish. “We are all absolutely devastated that we've been forced to cancel all upcoming shows as there's nothing we love more than playing on stage before an enthusiastic audience. We ask for your understanding in this situation”

"The band and management wish to extend a massive thanks to all of the promoters who showed such faith in the band by adding them to their bills, and to thank each and every one of them for their sensitivity and understanding of the band's situation."

"The band and Craig's family would like to ask that sensitivity be shown at a difficult time and ask that this statement be taken as their only comment on this matter."

Thankyou - The Vines

We here at Homebake HQ are saddened by the news of Craig's health and they will be missed on Homebake 08. Our thoughts and best wishes are with Craig, his family and his friends.

And the winners are..

Folks - here at Homebake HQ, the votes have been counted and  we can finally announce those lucky two last bands taking stage at Homebake 08 courtesy of the massive triplej unearthed national competition and the Hopetoun Hotel incentive.

Being one of triple j's biggest Unearthed competitions of the year, it's been announced that Adelaide quintet FIRE! SANTA ROSA, FIRE! are the official winners of the triplejunearthed Homebake competition!

Led by chanteuse Caitlin Duff, Fire! Santa Rosa, Fire!’s brand of monolithic, angular rock evokes former glories of bands such as Pretty Girls Make Graves and Q & Not U, as well as current luminaries My Disco and Minus the Bear. The band also features a pop-sensibility often relegated in
today's  culture to mobile ringtones and one-hit wonders.

triplejunearthed.com is Australia’s biggest and best unsigned artist website and each of the 20,000 + artists featured on tripleunearthed.com were eligible to win.

We welcome Fire! Santa Rosa, Fire! on the long sold-out Homebake Festival bill. Check them out at triplejunearthed.com and myspace

And.. after a full year of searching via a process of elimination involving weekly showcases at Sydney's famed Hopetoun Hotel, we are equally proud to announce that another five piece (albeit from Sydney) have won this long running incentive.

Being the brilliantly titled DEEP SEA ARCADE, Brag Magazine recently referred to them as being  "One of the best bands in Sydney at the moment is Deep Sea Arcade - melodic, lush and all round so gawddamn lovely."  In their own words, they describe themselves as  - 'Ethereal guitars and lyrical quirks that will transport the listener to a dark, watery world of mystery and enchantment, and leave heads swimming with unforgettable melodies.

Deep Sea Arcade’s reverberated pop recalls The Beatles at their psychedelic peak, yet with a character and charm that is undeniably unique. The triple j supported single Crouch End has attracted interest from all walks of life as the Sydney five-piece continues to build an enthusiastic live following.
> myspace

Congratulations to both FIRE! SANTA ROSA, FIRE! and DEEP SEA ARCADE. And a note to all those lucky Homebake 08 ticketholders, please make sure to arrive early to catch both these bands as they open our infamous Hopetoun Stage!

A new breed of acts added to the bill!

As announced back in August, HOMEBAKE 08 - Peace in the Park sold out in record time  and we are once again overwhelmed by the reaction. We extend our sincerest gratitude to all whom have shown their support and with such intense and surprising reaction; we can at least proudly proclaim that the local music industry is well and truly in a healthy shape.

And now that HOMEBAKE has officially placed the 'Full House' sign up on it's front door, what better way to abide by our ‘unwritten charter' than to give a bunch of new(ish) and some lesser known (although talented) bands the opportunity to expose their collective musical wares to the masses.

So folks, we want to stick to our words and instead of competing against the plethora of festival announcements flooding this great country of ours, it is with much pleasure that we introduce to you the bands who will complete the line up for this year's celebration of Antipodean music, culture and art..

· END OF FASHION · CHILDREN COLLIDE · DIE!DIE!DIE! · VIOLENT SOHO
· SUBAUDIBLE HUM · 78 SAAB · N'FA · MERCY ARMS · NUMBERS RADIO
· GRAFTON PRIMARY · THE E.L.F. · HAMISH MACLEOD · THE HOLIDAYS

And the still to be announced triple j Unearthed winner and Hopetoun Hotel Homebake Incentive Band winner (details for each of these new acts can be found in our band section)

And again we have to add that most famous statement...'but wait, there's more!’ Yes folks, we have yet to announce a couple more acts - and part of that announcement will consist of massive competitions via our presenting pals at triple j under the banner of 'Unearthed HOMEBAKE'.

You read right - triple j is giving you the chance to play at HOMEBAKE in Sydney in December. Make sure your best music is up online at www.triplejunearthed.com and you could be picked to play in front of thousands. triple j will pay for you to get there; you'll get a dressing room and a rider, the full rock star treatment. It’s open to any and every band, anywhere in Australia.

Add to this the Hopetoun Incentive Competition winning act culled from a years worth of entries and we are almost there!

The aural and visual festivities don't end there as we plan to assault the senses with a multi-visual display of imagery both confronting and insightful...and an even bigger and better Cinema Area now titled our Cinema Pavilion and housed within the renovated Pavilion On The Park premises within the Domain compound.

There's still more special effects; activities and spectacles to be announced, however we don't want to boast of our 2008 HOMEBAKE wares now that tickets are rarer than the proverbial 'needle in a haystack'.

Having said that there are still a few exclusive opportunities for eager HOMEBAKE fans to get to The Domain come December 6th! Tune into to Channel [V] over the coming weeks for your chance to win the ultimate rock experience at HOMEBAKE 08.

Be sure to switch on Video Hits on Saturday October 18 for your chance to win a meet and greet with singing sensation Gabriella Cilmi at the event. Grab your copy of J Mag for a chance to dance with PNAU!

And if that’s not enough, head over to the blog section at the official Homebake Myspace site for our ‘You Guessed It’ competition – www.myspace.com/homebake

And so with such an obviously simple yet blatantly genius statement setting the perfect tone.. Ladies & gentleman (and all good & great supporters of Homebake), we do have a very special Homebake announcement for 2008.

It's been many years in the planning with continual circumstances having prevented it becoming reality. However, the last two years have witnessed Homebake HQ re ignite the planning process for this very special theme.

Without the need to become the proverbial 'political animal', Homebake 08 will focus on an important (& apolitical) social messaging brought about by an overwhelming feeling of universal change all under the moniker of.. HOMEBAKE PEACE IN THE PARK.

Since welcoming the new millennium, Australia's last great celebration of cultural acceptance was the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. Since that period, the world has experienced much enforced conflict & turmoil via war, fear & political instability all resulting in a sometimes intolerant society.

Albeit that we are stating the obvious, this year's spectacular Homebake will focus on an apolitical theme of peace & freedom from conflict without the need for protest – ie; a theme based on a universal attitude of change and with a social slant towards an overall era of wanting (& accepting) of peace & unity.

As has been made evident via the attitudes of many cultures throughout the world (& resulting in the changing of government hierarchies – including our own), we invite the masses to join the local music film and arts communities at Homebake as we celebrate this special theme in the most appropriate and spectacular surroundings of The Domain in central Sydney city.

Joining Homebake in 2008 will be the internationally acclaimed human rights organization, Amnesty International, with which a massive part of our combined awareness campaigns will be the recognition & celebration of a very special occasion (& ironically coinciding with the time period of Homebake) – this being the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Described as the most translated document in the world, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 10 December 1948 at Palais de Chaillot, Paris). It consists of 30 articles which outline the view of the General Assembly on the human rights guaranteed to all people – no matter race nor religious beliefs. For further information, please visit
www.un.org/Overview/rights.html

Each and every year HOMEBAKE music & arts festival embraces a number of charities & causes and as mentioned, this year we will be highlighting the work of Amnesty International.

Amnesty International is one of the worlds most respected Human Rights organisations, Founded in London in July 1961 by English Labour lawyer, Peter Benenson, according to his own account, he was traveling in the London Underground on 19 November 1960, when he read of two Portuguese students who had been sentenced to seven years of imprisonment for having drunk a toast to liberty.

Amnesty International (commonly known as Amnesty or AI) is an international non-governmental organization which defines its mission as "to conduct research and generate action to prevent and end grave abuses of human rights and to demand justice for those whose rights have been violated.

AI draws its attention to human rights abuses and campaigns for compliance with international standards. It works to mobilize public opinion which exerts pressure on individuals who perpetrate abuses. AI was awarded the 1977 Nobel Peace Prize for its "campaign against torture" and the UN Human Rights Prize in 1978.

We are proud to be aligned with AI for Homebake 08. For further information, please visit www.amnesty.org.au

This year, HOMEBAKE also focuses its awareness campaign by presenting a very special viewing on all screens (& between bands) of one of the most amazing visual & audio creations representing what could be deemed as being the ultimate theme for unity.

Nominated for two Grammy Awards, this musical masterpiece ingeniously put together by Jamie Catto and Duncan Bridgeman is known as 1 GIANT LEAP.

Being a collaborative DVD/CD/Cinema project for the 21st century, fusing music, words, sounds, rhythms and images from around the globe to celebrate the creative diversity of musicians, storytellers, authors, filmmakers, artists and thinkers from many different cultures.

1 Giant Leap is a title, a philosophy, a leap of faith that sprung from the minds of these creative visionaries (Jamie and Duncan), and was supported by music industry legend Chris Blackwell. It is a melding of 21st Century technology and age-old beliefs; of careful planning and spontaneity; of East and West; rich and poor; the embodiment of the unity in human diversity.

1 Giant Leap features contributions from some of the most creative minds of our generation: Dennis Hopper, Kurt Vonnegut, Michael Stipe, Robbie Williams, Tom Robbins, Speech (from Arrested Development), Brian Eno, Baaba Maal, Anita Roddick, Ram Dass, Michael Franti, Gabrielle Roth, Asha Bhosle, and many others.

The primary theme of the project is “unity in diversity” – the assertion that regardless of one's circumstance and experience, our similarities vastly outweigh our differences. 1 Giant Leap explores simple but universal concepts that touch all of us, no matter where we come from or where we are going.

Do yourself a favour and check out a sample of the genius that is 1 Giant Leap here:

1 Giant Leap – Confrontation Part 2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gaof2x2RzSo&feature=related

Once again.. it's a huge & massive start to this specially themed & inspired line-up – our first big names announced with many more to come - and totaling over forty combined artist and performers.

HOMEBAKE 2008 – 'Peace In The Park' is destined to be one of the most memorable & finest music festivals kicking off the summer period and will also feature a variety of extra activities and features including a bigger HOMEBAKE Cinema Tent (featuring short films by up coming Australian producers and directors and put together by producer/actor extraordinaire, Kieron Darcy Smith of 'Two Hands' & 'The Cave' fame), our famous international food fare, a plethora of market and information stalls, roving performers, surprises & much, much more.
