We at HOMEBAKE head quarters have now pulled the doors closed and are ready to present the final lucky bands to take part in the largest and most musically diverse HOMEBAKE festival to date. Yes folks, HOMEBAKE 2002 is set to deliver its most brilliant collection of local musical talent in the history of the event including major acts from all genres of music taking in the hottest acts this country has to offer in pop, rock, blues, indigenous, ska, punk, dance, electronica, country and DJ's. Put simply HOMEBAKE in its eighth year reminds us to celebrate the fact we are Australians and that we are a talented bunch at that!
This year HOMEBAKE is also very proud to announce the debut appearance of the NSW HACKY SACK / FOOTBAG CHAMPIONSHIPS with the best freestyle shredders from Australia spearheading this unique sporting event. Lynton Stephens (2001 Australian champion) will be there to demonstrate his skills as a Freestyle Hackysack/Footbag champ along with many other representatives from footbag clubs throughout Australia. If you want to develop your Footbag/Hackysack skills don't miss out on this event, it will be huge! HACKYSACK has evolved over the years into the sport of FREESTYLE FOOTBAG, there are now over 500 clubs in the USA and over 50 registered clubs in Australia, Footbag/ Hacky Sack is growing in popularity day by day and is a very challenging sport with hundreds of radically extreme freestyle tricks to master. For more information about and the sport and what to expect at the championship go to www.footbag.org and check out the video section. May your legs be loose and your tricks be clean!
On to the musical matters at hand - we are thrilled to announce that joining Award winning acts such as ALEX LLOYD, KASEY CHAMBERS, GRINSPOON, MACHINE GUN FELLATIO, SONICANIMATION, PNAU, GEORGE and 1200 TECHNIQUES, (and making their debut public performance) will be those wonderful Koori youngsters from the bush who have charmed the airwaves around the nation since Triple J discovered and aired their track 'Downriver' THE WILCANNIA MOB. Having built mass interest since the airing of this debut recording, THE WILCANNIA MOB will be certain to enamour us with their indigenous hip hop debut live on stage. Considering their age ranging from 9 years to 13 years old, THE WILCANNIA MOB will make history at HOMEBAKE being the youngest Australians ever to perform on stage at the annual event.
He's been somewhat busy this year and TIM ROGERS really needs no introduction as the lead man of one of this nations favourite live bands YOU AM I, he is renowned for his passion filled performances and although YOU AM I have already been announced on the bill for HOMEBAKE 2002, Tim will take time out, on his lonesome, to join the Acoustic Pavilion for a special solo performance.
Having spent the better part of a year, signing a deal with Virgin/Capitol, writing an album's worth of material and working closely with Gomez's Ian Ball, GELBISON have come from the beaches of Bondi toured thru the UK and impressed everyone that has crossed their path. With a live show nothing short of dynamic and their latest single, 'Metal Detector' sitting on high rotation on JJJ they take their craft to Homebake for the first time.
Having released their debut album 'Bruises You Can Touch' in May this year, Brisbane based quintet SPEEDSTAR have shared the stage with many acts on the HOMEBAKE bill. Now with a new single titled 'This Everyday Life' expect their performance to include lashings of harmonica, glockenspiel, Hammond and Rhodes piano, cello and more!
Melbourne's dark popsters GERSEY have been extremely busy of late. They have just released the highly acclaimed second album 'Storms dressed as Stars' and have just completed a tour supporting Mercury Rev. GERSEY has been described as nothing short of exhilarating and should not be missed at this year's HOMEBAKE festival.
Brisbane band RHUBARB has quickly become one of the brightest lights on the Australian music horizon with their catchy melodic pop rock tunes. They've had a wealth of tracks from their 'Slow Motion' album pumped across Triple J's airwaves; and now we also welcome RHUBARB for their debut HOMEBAKE performance.

Known for his stint as front man of Brisbane based melodic rock act Pretty Violet Stain, SHANE NICHOLSON has received critical acclaim for his debut solo album 'It's A Movie'. He can sing your pain better than you can describe it to your best friend; he's able to silence a capacity room with just his voice and guitar. He is one of that rare breed the genuine singer/songwriter - and we are proud to have him on board this year for a special acoustic performance at HOMEBAKE.
Influenced by such bands as Snuff, NOFX, Green Day and The Hard-Ons Sydney
band CRANK
constantly toured the national this year, we should see a new CD out early
2003 when the band will also unleash themselves on European audiences
for the second time.
Without doubt the SNEAKY SOUND SYSTEM are one of Australia's most popular and sought after house collectives. They combine the infinite talents of two DJ's, an MC and a sax player, and turn it into something that is equally fresh, unique, addictive and highly entertaining. This group of DJ's has performed right up and down the East Coast of Australia and they will surely keep you movin' and groovin' at this year's HOMEBAKE.
DJ's PASH started a nightclub in Sydney about 6 months ago in particular to cater for bands after show parties, they play a mix of Punk, new-wave, garage and Rock'n'roll and they're sure to keep your ass a shakin' at HOMEBAKE 2002.
DJ MARK DYNAMIX is considered Australia's own `superstar DJ`; with a sales history of well over 200 000 mix CDs, the leading face for Ministry of Sound DJs in Australia last month released The Annual 2002 Ministry of Sound CD, mixed by Mark it certainly does showcase his mixing talents and is sure to continue to strengthen his popularity in the dance music scene.
We at HOMEBAKE headquarters love a bit of Pizza and we are very pleased DJ ABEL EL TORO has been busy in the studio recording for, comedian /hip hop, rapper "sleek the elite", the single 'Oh Yeah', will coincide with the release of 'PIZZA' the movie which will be released in cinemas early in the new year.
As always, the main focus is on the music, and HOMEBAKE 2002 will spread a variety of acts across five big stages including the main stage, the massive Triple J Big Top, The Dome Stage and our brand new ACOUSTIC PAVILION. Of course we can't forget the nurturing Hopetoun Stage, who this year is giving every unsigned band performing at the venue up until November 15 the opportunity to prove their talent and be chosen to be included on the bill for HOMEBAKE 2002. Stay tuned for the announcement of the winner of the HOMEBAKE HOPETOUN Competition.
HOMEBAKE is very pleased to alert you to the accompanying CD released for this annual celebration of Australian Music 'HOMEBAKE - Volume 6', a specially priced double CD set featuring all the HOMEBAKE 2002 acts will be released on November 25th through Hello Cleveland / EMI Music.
